JAPAK Agro Foods
Founded in 2019, JAPAK Agro Foods Limited is a Ugandan company dedicated to sustainable food production, including crop and livestock farming. With a commitment to reducing the yield gap and enhancing environmental resilience.
We apply innovative farming practices in both rural and urban settings. Our diverse operations range from producing maize, beans, root crops, and vegetables to raising livestock like cows, goats, and chickens.
In addition to food production, we offer catering services tailored to Kampala's market. Through our research efforts, we develop sustainable solutions, such as protein bait for fruit fly control and using black soldier fly for recycling agricultural waste into affordable animal feed.
These innovations support our vision of advancing Uganda’s role as a regional food basket.
What We Do
Research and Innovation
Development of agricultural innovations geared towards optimization of agricultural output. Recent innovations include two important products namely: Protein Bait for fruit fly control and Black Soldier Fly (Hermetia illucens) that generates an alternative source of livestock feed plus, Fras the bio-fertilizer.
The company is in dire need of financial resources to scale up production of these novel products at commercial level for the benefit of farmers countrywide and beyond.
This is reformulated brewery waste yeast known as Protein Auto lysate which contains 45-60%. It is used for controlling fruit flies that threaten fruit and vegetable industry. The protein bait is applied using ‘spot spray technique’ implying that overall coverage of plant is not required. This translates into huge financial savings because less material, time and labor are required compared to conventional pesticides. It is also safe to beneficial organisms (pollinators and natural enemies) as well as the spray operator and ultimately to the consumers. Protein bait spray technology is thus, eco-friendly and is acceptable world over in quarantine protocols and quality assurance schemes between producers and prospective overseas markets. The modified brewery waste yeast is also especially good for animal feeds considering its protein content and other essential nutrients
Black soldier flies bio-convert organic waste into nutrient rich larval biomass which can be harvested and processed into livestock feed. The excreta called Fras generated during larval growth is an excellent bio fertilizer. JAPAK Agro Foods Limited houses a small scale production facility of BSF and utilizes BSF-based feeds to rear chicken while the Fras bio fertilizer is used in vegetable production. Use of BSF products result in considerable savings on production costs of farm operations. Black soldier flies feed voraciously on various organic waste streams and BSF technology is currently employed for effective management of agricultural and food waste generated by some company operations

This unit supplies fresh, organic produce and livestock products that feed directly into our Catering Service Unit, ensuring a farm-to-table experience.
